Kongsberg Digital

- The role I'm in now requires the whole organization to be involved in the work, because safety must be consistent in everything we do. My job is to get the desired message out to the various lines and get it understood. Through 'New in the role', I've gained some new tools that I now actively use to achieve this in my everyday work," says Høiland.

In particular, she highlights situation analysis and work on mapping what creates success and what hinders it as useful points in the course. She also highlights the focus on planning for the next 90 days and drawing up a plan that leads the organization forward and provides a clear direction. Participants in the program were given a practical approach through group assignments and work between the digital sessions.

Own efforts determine the yield

Free time in the calendar to put in the work required between meetings is an important factor for success, and this also applies to leadership development. Høiland believes this was crucial to the benefits she gained from the program. That's why time is also her top tip for future participants.

- I had decided in advance that this time I would really take the time to do it properly. With similar programs in the past, I have usually not had the opportunity to do so. But if both you personally and the organization prioritize the time required, both parties gain a clear benefit from participating in this type of leadership development. Not only does it help to increase awareness of your own leadership role and how various tasks can be solved, but I think the results have come faster than they would have otherwise. My increased focus is also reflected in the rest of the organization," says Høiland.

Useful and educational for those new to the role

The program offers interaction between managers from different companies and industries who are all new to their roles. This provides an opportunity to learn from the experiences and perspectives of others, which can be applied in the work with their own organization. The managers who participated in this group were at different levels in their companies.

- "There is always something to learn from others no matter where in an organization and in what role they are in, so it's always interesting to have this type of group. For me, it was a useful course with important content, very educational," Høiland concludes.
